FLYING HIGH ABROAD:

Councillor Miriam Matemba becomes the first African and first Zimbabwean-born candidate to be elected as a Councillor for Newcastle City Council in the United Kingdom. Councillor Matemba was elected in the country-wide council elections that took part on the 5th of May 2022.

She has indeed broken the glass ceiling thrice at once…first African, first Zimbabwean and first female.

She is one of many Zimbabweans born UK residents who are actively participating in their constituencies in different capacities, some as Councillors and some also actively vying for MP positions.
